97.9 La Raza

97.9 La Raza is the voice of East Los Angeles, broadcasting Regional Mexican music and banda with the passion and authenticity that has made it a cornerstone of the Mexican-American community in Southern California. For a region where Mexican culture is not just present but foundational, La Raza plays the music that reflects that heritage — loud, celebratory, emotionally powerful, and deeply rooted in the traditions that millions of Los Angeles families carry with them every day.

The programming centers on the sounds that define Regional Mexican: thundering banda sinaloense with brass and percussion that commands any room, corridos that tell the stories of the border and beyond, norteño accordion grooves, and the romantic sweep of grupero ballads. La Raza features artists like Banda MS, El Recodo, Calibre 50, Los Bukis, and the full spectrum of performers who dominate the Regional Mexican charts and pack arenas from East LA to Guadalajara. The station is embedded in the community it serves, connecting listeners to music events, cultural moments, and the sounds that define quinceañeras, family gatherings, and weekend celebrations across the region.

East Los Angeles has one of the most concentrated and proud Mexican-American communities in the United States, and 97.9 La Raza honors that community with music that belongs to it. This is not background music — it's music that carries identity, memory, and joy in every note. Whether you're cruising Whittier Boulevard, cooking for the family, or celebrating a life moment, La Raza is the soundtrack.
