Kentucky Rock Radio Stations

Rock music has a devoted following across Kentucky that often surprises observers who associate the state primarily with country music. Louisville's rock scene — particularly the alternative rock community that gave the country My Morning Jacket and a robust indie music culture — has been one of the more critically respected in the South for decades. Lexington's university community supports active rock radio alongside the bluegrass-to-rock crossover sounds that Kentucky's musical geography naturally produces. And the state's connection to the Appalachian rock sounds of the mountain east gives Kentucky rock a regional specificity that commercial radio honors.

Rock radio in Kentucky serves listeners across the genre's spectrum — from the classic rock that draws on the Rolling Stones and Led Zeppelin catalog to the active rock and alternative programming that reaches younger listeners. The Louisville market in particular supports sophisticated rock programming that reflects the city's genuinely interesting music scene, while smaller markets across the state find in rock radio a reliable companion for the drives through the Bluegrass and the mountain terrain that define the state's varied geography.
