New Mexico Sports Radio Stations

New Mexico's sports radio landscape centers on the University of New Mexico Lobos, the state's dominant sports narrative across football and basketball, and the New Mexico United FC professional soccer club that has built one of the more passionate fan bases in USL Championship soccer. In a state without a major professional sports franchise, college sports take on greater cultural significance — a Lobo basketball run in the Mountain West Conference generates statewide attention that NFL cities would reserve for a playoff game.

Sports radio in New Mexico covers the Lobos across all sports, New Mexico State Aggies athletics from Las Cruces, New Mexico United soccer, and the regional interest in neighboring states' professional teams — the Dallas Cowboys, Denver Broncos, Phoenix Suns, and other franchises that New Mexico fans adopt in the absence of home market options. The state's outdoor recreation culture also brings extreme sports, high school athletics, and the occasional horse racing coverage from the Sunland Park and Ruidoso tracks into the sports radio conversation.
